For a list of Parisian markets in English by arrondissement visit: District Markets of Paris

Rue du Poteau (5 minutes from the cooking school)

For cheese - we suggest going to Chez Marie Quatrehomme at 10 rue du Poteau, a beautiful traditional "fromagerie" with high quality cheeses. The owner likes to talk about her cheeses and will be happy to make recommendations

For charcuterie - just next door at number 11 there is Charcuterie de Montmartre, a nice selection of fresh products and preserved food, with beautiful hams and tasty pâtés and ready to eat foods.

The boucherie - (butchers), we like is La Nouvelle. They specialize in poultry so you will find birds of all sizes from all regions. But red meat is very much present as well.

Fruits and Vegetables - There is Les Halles de Montmartre at the corner of rue du Poteau and rue Duhesme, which has fresh seasonal produce by piece or by weight.

Wine - Found all over Paris is a chain of wine stores called Nicolas, there is a good selection of wine, champagne and spirits at every price for all tastes. There is one at Place Charles Bernard

Don't want to cook but feeling hungry all the same? Go buy a lovely rotisserie chicken from Maistre Mathieu at 10 rue du Poteau

Bread - Pastry shop and boulangerie Fradin, at 4 rue du Poteau, has wonderful quality breads with a large selection including traditional pastries.

Poissonnerie (fish market) - There is only one in the area but you certainly will not be disappointed by the quality or selection at Chez Crusta, rue Duhesme.

Rue Lepic

Fromagerie - At 18 rue Lepic, La Fromagerie Lepic, has a great selection of French cheeses but also cheeses from all over Europe

Charcuterie - Aux vrais produit d'Auvergne, quality sausages, pâtés. A little expensive true, but the owners smile will melt your heart.

Epicerie - This is where you can find everything imaginable in packaged products from mustard to chocolates and spices. Epicerie du Terroir, at number 28 with a good selection of spices and some high end products like chocolates, little cakes, conserved vegetables, rare oils . . .
or
Le Comptoir Coloniale, #22, a little different, but also carries preserved foods and quality products, as well as coffee and tea from all over the world.

Patisserie - #26, Les Petits Mitrons is charming pastry that is a bit different from many of the others you will find around Paris. Here there are no pretenses. The display windows sports tarts that look like you could have made them in your own kitchen but don't be fooled by the meager exterior, this tarts will knock your socks off. This is grandma's pastry shop if there ever was one.

Boucherie - Chez Roger Billebault, a large and clean French butcher shop, the meats are well presented and there is a lovely variety of prepared food to take home and reheat.

Poissonnerie - Chez Pepone at #36 is one of the oldest fish mongers in Montmartre. They will happily clean your choice of fish for you and also offer a few bottles of prepared fish soup.

Fruits and Vegetables - Au Jardin Lepic, is clean and has a nice selection of seasonal produce.
